The Freedson Equation. Developed by Dr. Patty Freedson in 1997, this equation is only accurate
above 1951 counts for adults.
 = × (0.00094 × +
(
0.1346 × 7.37418
)
)
[ 
(
1952 × 
)
]
where
 = (   ÷ 60)
Combination (Work Energy and Freedson). When selected, the combination option automatically
uses the Work-Energy Theorem to calculate caloric expenditure below 1951 counts and the
Freedson Equation to calculate energy expenditure above 1952 counts.
 =
/ ,  < 1952
 ,  1952
Vector Magnitude. This option uses all three axes (if data is collected on all three axes) to estimate
energy expenditure. The Vector Magnitude calculation is only valid if the epoch counts exceed
the  × 2453. This formula was validated by Freedson in 2010. See

monitor/ for more details.

Important: Energy Expenditure calculations are only accurate for adults, age
19years and up.
Cut Points
ActiLife5’s cut point data scoring option allows users to break out the proportion of time each dataset encompasses in
different categories of activity. Default cut points are defined in Table 16. These values can be adjusted (by selecting
“Modify Selected Cut Point”) or removed (by selecting “Remove Selected Cut Point”). To restore default values, select
“Restore Defaults” from the ‘Cut Points’ tab. To add new cut points, select “Add Cut Point.”
